Sliding vs hinged is the most-debated wardrobe design decision. Three concrete factors decide it. Factor 1: Room space. Sliding needs zero swing (works in rooms under 12 ft wide). Hinged needs 60cm clear swing space — fails in tight rooms. If you have less than 60cm between bed-side and wardrobe-side, sliding is mandatory.
Factor 2: Daily access pattern. Hinged opens the FULL wardrobe at once (good for picking outfits, organising shelves). Sliding opens HALF at a time (frustrating if you want to see everything). For wardrobes under 8 ft long, hinged feels easier daily. For wardrobes over 8 ft, sliding is more practical (full-shutter hinged is unwieldy).
