How the locker should sit

  • Place the locker against the south or west wall of the SW bedroom (grounded)
  • The locker opens to the North (Kubera, wealth direction)
  • Don't place the locker directly under a beam
  • Keep the locker slightly elevated (on a base or shelf), not on the bare floor
  • Keep it clean + organised inside — a cluttered locker is considered inauspicious
Kavya's take: Locker Vastu has a charming symmetry: the locker sits in the SW (stability, grounding) but opens to the North (Kubera, wealth flowing in). That gesture — grounded storage opening towards wealth — is a lovely metaphor whether you read it as Vastu or not. We design wardrobe-integrated lockers to honour this when clients ask.

Our honest approach: Vastu Shastra is a traditional system of orientation that many Chennai + Tamil Nadu families value. We respect it fully and integrate it into your design where the home's fixed layout allows — without fear-based claims or forcing impractical structural changes. Where an apartment can't match a rule, we prioritise the highest-impact placements + sensible remedies, so you honour the tradition within a livable, beautiful home.

In short

Vastu places the locker in the SW bedroom on the south or west wall, opening to the North (Kubera, wealth direction). Keep it slightly elevated, not under a beam, clean + organised inside. The gesture — grounded storage opening to wealth — is the symbolic + practical Vastu intent for protecting + attracting prosperity.

Common questions

Which direction should a locker face as per Vastu?
The locker should open to the North — the Kubera direction associated with wealth — so the door opens facing north when you unlock it. Place the locker against the south or west wall of the room so its opening faces north.
Where in the house should the locker be placed?
In the South-West room (typically the master bedroom or a small pooja-room niche). The SW is the most grounded, stable direction in Vastu, and pairing it with a north-opening locker creates the Vastu gesture of grounded storage opening to wealth.
Can the locker be in the children's room or kitchen?
Vastu prefers the master bedroom's SW for the main locker. A smaller everyday safe can be in another bedroom if needed, but the main wealth storage belongs in the SW master. Avoid the kitchen + bathroom for the locker.
Should the locker be on the floor or elevated?
Slightly elevated — on a low platform, inside a wardrobe, or on a shelf. Vastu advises against placing the locker directly on the bare floor. Built-in lockers within wardrobe units are an excellent way to elevate + conceal them.
Can the locker be in the NE direction?
No — the North-East is the sacred zone reserved for pooja, water + light. Heavy items including lockers don't belong in the NE. The SW is the correct direction for the locker.
Does the locker have to face exactly North?
Within reasonable tolerance. The intent is that the door opens facing north — so when unlocking, you face north + the door opens towards Kubera. If the room's layout forces a slight angle, prioritise the SW placement + north-ish opening.
Are there other Vastu rules for storing cash + jewellery?
Keep the locker clean + organised inside (disorganised wealth = inauspicious), avoid storing broken items in it, don't keep it under a beam, and add a small image of Lakshmi or a Sri Yantra inside if your family follows that tradition. The main rule is SW placement + north opening.
How does Homeli integrate Vastu lockers into wardrobes?
We design built-in safe lockers within the master bedroom's SW wardrobe — concealed, elevated on a wardrobe shelf, opening to the north. Honest, secure + Vastu-aligned. We confirm the orientation + the wardrobe spec in the itemised quote.
